Abbazia San Pietro in Valle

Ferentillo - Terni

An 8th-century Benedictine monastery in the Valnerina, declared a national monument. A Lombard church with pre-Giotto frescoes, a Romanesque cloister, and a panoramic garden over the woods.

Abbazia San Pietro in Valle sits in Ferentillo, in the province of Terni, deep inside the thick woods that cover the Valnerina. Getting there is already an experience: the road descends along the river Nera, medieval villages alternate with the green, and then the abbey appears on the rock face as if it had always been there. Because it has — for over a thousand years.

You breathe something here that you don't find easily: real silence, authentic history, a family-run management that turned the cells of the Benedictine monks into rooms where guests sleep inside the 12th century. I've photographed weddings here several times, and every time the abbey surprises me with something new — a different light, a corner I hadn't explored yet.

HOW I WORK HERE

Photographing a wedding at Abbazia San Pietro in Valle

The Lombard church is the visual heart of the abbey: pre-Giotto frescoes on the walls, ancient stone, light filtered through the small Romanesque windows. It's a space that doesn't need to be dressed up — it already has everything. My job here is not to disturb: to follow the ceremony with respect, to wait for the moments that happen on their own.

The Romanesque cloister is perfect for portraits after the ceremony. The garden opens onto the valley and offers a depth you rarely find. In the evening, torches and candlelight turn the spaces into something completely different — more ancient, more intimate.

I work with the Realwed™ Method: a discreet presence, an eye always attentive, shooting when the scene composes itself. In a place like this, all you need to do is wait.

✓ Full reportage from getting ready to the reception
✓ Evening coverage by candlelight
✓ Fine art prints and album available on request

THE METHOD

I don't follow a style: I follow you

The Realwed™ Method is not a formula. It's a way of working on the field: present without being intrusive, attentive without being directive. Every couple is different, every venue has its own light, every day has its own pace. I adapt — not the other way around.
