Legal Requirements

Getting legally married in Italy as a non-Italian citizen requires specific documentation. The exact requirements depend on your nationality and whether you are pursuing a civil or religious ceremony. Generally this includes: a valid passport, a birth certificate with apostille, and a Nulla Osta (a declaration from your country's embassy or consulate confirming no impediment to the marriage). The process takes time — begin research at least 9 to 12 months before your date.

Many international couples opt for a legally binding ceremony in their home country and a symbolic ceremony in Italy. I work with both formats equally — the photographs have the same meaning and weight regardless of the legal structure of the day.

Symbolic vs Civil Ceremonies

A symbolic ceremony in Italy is not a legally registered marriage, but for many couples it is the ceremony that matters most emotionally. You write your own vows, choose your own officiant, select a setting that has meaning to you rather than one determined by bureaucratic convenience. The photographs from a symbolic ceremony are indistinguishable from those of a legal one — which is to say, completely real.

Planning Timeline

For a destination wedding in Italy, I recommend confirming your photographer 12 to 18 months in advance, particularly for peak season dates (May to October). I always begin with a video call — I want to understand who you are before we discuss anything else.

Logistics and Travel

All my packages include my personal presence at your wedding. Travel costs outside Umbria are estimated transparently and added to the package cost. I travel throughout Italy and internationally — the logistics have never been a barrier to working with a couple who is the right fit.

Language

I work fully in English. Contracts, communications, the conversation on your wedding day — all in English. If you speak Italian, even better. If you do not, it makes no difference.
